目前研究兴趣主要在以下几个方面:
噪声对神经细胞信号传递的影响,神经元网络同步性研究,基因表达动力学及调控网络理论,以秀丽隐杆线虫为模式生物进行的寿命和健康的实验和理论研究。
完成国家自然科学基金青年基金1项,完成国家自然科学基金理论物理专项1项,参与在研国家自然科学基金2项。

教学:
长期从事物理实验教学和《力学》专业课程教学。获湖北省首届物理实验青年教师讲课比赛特等奖,华中师范大学第九届本科教学创新奖三等奖,《力学》课程获华中师范大学课程思政优秀示范课程,杨利建获课程思政优秀教师。指导学生参加全国大学生物理实验创新竞赛,累积获国家级一等奖5项,二等奖4项。发表教学相关论文如下:
